Fending Off The Winter Blues

We all like looking tanned don’t we? It makes you look healthier, prettier and even slimmer. Just because summer is coming to an end does not mean your tan has to. One way to fend off those winter blues is to keep your bronzed completion all year round so what are your options? The evidence connecting UV radiation (whether that be from the Sun or from a tanning bed) with skin cancer and premature aging of the skin is now overwhelming. You can get tanning pills and even sprays that you squirt up your nose which claim to do the job. Some of these still require exposure to UV radiation and even if they were good for you (and the jury is definitely still out on that question) you have little or no control over what colour you will end up. It seems then that the best options are either the do it yourself approach with self-tanning moose or find a tanning booth or spray tan professional to do it for you. It will come as no surprise that as a spray tanning professional myself I would rather be tanned by a person than a machine. That said, the booths do a pretty good job, and are cheaper. Self-tanning does take a bit of practice and even with the old trick of putting a tanning mitt on your loofah or back scrubbing brush it is a tricky business getting flawless coverage on your back if you don’t have a good friend to help.

So let’s say you want to have a spray tan, and I think everyone should try it at least once. You can either go to a salon or there are an increasing number of mobile spray tanners that can spray you in the comfort of your own home. They can also spray tan your priceless carpet, wallpaper or poodle if they don’t know what they are doing so it makes a lot of sense checking that they are properly qualified and insured. This need not be as impossible a task as it sounds. Some of the major spray tanning solution manufacturers (such as Sienna-X, St. Tropez and Xen tan) have a therapist locator on their website so for instance if you go to the Sienna X website and type in Esher or KT10 it will come up with me. For therapists that did their training at a college I presume you would have to contact that college or other training provider. As for insurance you will just need to ask the therapist for a copy of their insurance certificate and if there is any suspicion that it might have been photoshopped then check with the insurers directly.

If you have never had a spray tan before (and sometimes even if you have) most therapists will require a patch test to make sure you are not allergic to anything in the spray tan solution. This simply involves putting a dab of solution somewhere inconspicuous such as behind the ear or in the crook of the elbow. I am not going to go into all of the things you need to do (and need not to do) before a spray tan, My requirements can be found here There may be some minor differences with other spray tanners but I think they will all be much of a muchness.

I am afraid this article has gone on a bit longer than I had intended but the main point is that you can still have a healthy bronzed glow throughout the year. If you are in my neck of the woods then you are more than welcome to visit my website for more details.
