As Autumn Turns Into Winter We Swear By These Cold-Weather Essentials
Once we see that thermometer drop below 10 degrees we start to realize that our days of chilling a little in a t-shirt are long gone for the season.

You may love being outdoors, even in the colder months or you may be forced to head outdoors to commute, whatever the case wearing the right clothes and having the right accessories is essential. It’s good for you that the Insider Picks team knows exactly how to keep you warm and toasty in this cold and wet season and our knowledge comes from trying and testing things for ourselves here in London.

To get you ready for the cold season we have gathered all of the cold-weather essentials that we love to keep handy. Tech-friendly gloves from Chester Jeffries, waterproof boots, flannel-lined jeans, we have it all here and we encourage you to make use of them as the weather gets colder.

Here they come:

1. Women’s Organic Cotton Quilt Snap-T Pullover (By Patagonia)

In the past, I didn’t really understand why people were so caught up with Patagonia, but now that I have this sweater and completely understand. In fact, this is what I wear nearly all of the time; I adore it. Being soft and warm it is ideal for chilling out, heading out to do a few errands, and wearing over a T-shirt. When it is buttoned the stand-up collar keeps my neck cosy but I can also leave it unbuttoned if it’s not so chilly. The water-repellent finish means even if I head out in the rain or snow I still get to stay warm.

2. Madewell Crewneck Sweatshirt

Boasting a tight weave, this is an item of clothing that sure knows how to be sturdy. It works well in the office over a T-shirt. However, since it is made of French terry cloth it is also great to pull on if I’m laid up in bed with a cold or simply lounging around the house. I’d say this is an item that could work with pretty much any outfit. For me, it is a wardrobe staple.

3. 32 Degrees Scoop Neck Thermal Tops

I have loads of these basic tops in my wardrobe, as they are ideal for layering. The fabric is stretchy and sticks well to the skin so you get that warm feeling all day long. Last year I had them on all the time but they kept their shape well and retained heat rather impressively.

4. Heavy Humbug Stripe Scarf (From Topshop)

When it comes to accessories for the cold weather, a blanket scarf has to be at the top of my list. Looking and feeling all snugged-up is perfection to me. They are also a great way to give you extra warmth on a cold day, as well as the fact they liven up an outfit that may feel a little boring.

5. Hooded Packable Jacket (By Michael Kors)

Last year I moved from a place that views freezing cold as anything under 60 degrees to New York, this meant I really didn’t know how to kit myself out for cold winters. However, what I did have was this jacket and I soon discovered that it really does know how to stand its ground in snowy and stormy weather. Since it is not thick I had low expectations, yet I was surprised at how warm it actually is. Of course, I wouldn’t stand in the pouring rain or snow in it all day long but it did do well in a moderate amount of exposure.

6. Gloves Unisex Sports Touchscreen Gloves

These were a gift last year and I have actually ended up using them a lot more than my stylish leather gloves. They are rather thin. So they don’t provide lots of heat but, unlike my leather counterparts, they let me text which is great if I’m responding to emails and messages while waiting outside for the early morning train.
