Choosing the right rabbit hutch is not a light decision. Your rabbit will use the hutch throughout its life time. It is therefore important to choose a hutch that will suit the needs of your rabbit taking into account the area available and your total budget. The following are major elements of keeping your rabbit healthy. They are as follows:
Provide enough room
Provide enough room for your rabbit to move around, stretch, stand upright and turn around. Before purchasing a hutch, you should first consider the room available in your garden or yard. Your rabbit’s room is also it’s dining room, bedroom and bathroom. Buy a hutch that is at least four times the size of the rabbit and preferably much bigger, you can’t buy a hutch that is too big so go for the biggest that you can afford and have room for in your home or garden. The health and comfort of your rabbit is by far the most important factor so make sure you get this right.
Provide a good diet
The digestive system of a rabbit is very sensitive. It is specifically designed for diets that have high fiber content. You can supplement the diet of your rabbit with fruits and vegetables. Hay and grass will keep the digestive track smooth and will wear down your rabbit’s teeth.
Neuter
You can neuter your rabbit to remove sexual frustration, make the urine less smelly and improve the overall behavior of the rabbit. Spraying also reduces chances of stress and aggressive behavior.
Entertain
Often provide toys for your rabbit to play with. Play improves cardiovascular fitness, muscle tone, digestion and joint flexibility.
Vaccinate
Provide vaccinations and good care in order to avoid life threatening conditions. You can also take your rabbit to a veterinary surgeon to check and trim your rabbit’s teeth.
