How To Make Portuguese Coffee

Coffee very much is like a religion in Portugal, with the Portugese even having their own spelling for the classically Italian drink ‘expresso’ (espresso in Italian).  Unlike other cultures, coffee drinking is often enjoyed whilst out and about rather than in the comfort of your own home.

Powering the revolution during 1974, it is often thought that the Portuguese love of strong coffee originated from this period due to the use of robusta coffee beans.  Drunk regularly in cafes, restaurants and bars, the Portuguese enjoy the beverage in relaxed settings.

Imported from Brazil, Portugal’s love of coffee goes way beyond their coffee beans.  With technicians through out the country adapting and creating coffee stations and machinery set to Portugal’s desired temperature and water pressure.

This high quality machinery is unique to Portugal, producing the countries unique coffee.  Available in a variety of coffee styles, however mostly drunk in espresso form (spelt expresso in Portugal) due to the strength and robust taste.  Typically served in larger cups, the Portuguese espresso (Portuguese 30ml vs Italian 20ml) offers a caffeine hit to get you buzzing!

Due to these qualities that the Portugese look for in their coffees, here at Hipster Coffee we recommend our Gourmet Coffee which has been created from high grade arabica and robusta coffee beans.  Providing a coffee which boasts a strong flavor and one that is perfect for espresso making.  Come in either ground or full bean dependent upon your requirements.  All of the Hipster Coffee’s product range come in air tight bags to ensure that freshness is obtained.  This gourmet coffee is available in a range of sizes from trial size up to catering sized bags perfect for restaurants, shops and cafes.

The Forte Blend Coffee from Hipster Coffee offers a strong tasting brew which features tasting elements of soft spices and gentle cocoa which runs through the coffee providing balance and texture.  Each bag of Hipster Coffees Forte Blend Coffee is freshly roasted in either light, medium or dark dependent upon your requirements.  A great coffee for creating a strong hot beverage such as a cafe or espresso.

Another popular coffee to drink in Portugal is the Galao Coffee.  A different twist to the expresso coffee, Galao offers a rich drink which is offset by creamy milk and sugar.  A popular beverage is often served in bakery’s and coffee shops throughout the country.  A perfect drink to serve with sweet or savory meals and snacks, often in Portugal Galao is had at breakfast time – a great start to the day!The classic Galao beverage is the closest you will get to a traditional cafe au lait.  A moreish drink that is truly delicious, it is served in a tall glass opposed to its smaller counter part the Garoto.
